History of the company (1950-2006)

Johann Kling established the company Spenglerei Kling (GmbH) - a company now rich in tradition - in Oberstdorf. His son, the master plumber Meinhard Kling, entered the company only five years later and was to have a decisive influence on the development of the company. He developed the clamp system for snow retention brackets which is still in use in the present day. Based on our long years of experience in the area of metal roofing, we now offer a high-performance yet cost-effective overall package for snow retention, and also a complete fixing system for ribbed roofs, following all the recognised rules of the trade.

30 years after establishment of the company in 1980, we needed larger workshops due to the continual expansion of our production. For this reason, the factory was moved from Lerchenstrasse 2 to the “Im Steinach” industrial estate. Today, not only the Spengler workshops are there, but also the entire production factory for snow retention and bracket systems.

In 1997, Master Plumber Meinhard Kling was awarded the Golden Master's Certificate by the Swabian Chamber of Trade in recognition of his long years of superb work. Five years before this, Andreas Kling, grandson of the company founder, had taken over management of the enterprise. His son, Clemens Kling, was the thirtieth apprentice within the company, and is therefore continuing the tradition of the Oberstdorf family company in the fourth generation. In February 2005 he successfully passed the master plumber's examination at the Robert-Mayer-Schule in Stuttgart.

General information on fixed and sliding brackets / clips

Metal roofs and facades are exposed to environmental influences such as wind and temperature-related longitudinal expansion. If damage is to be avoided, it is essential to achieve the correct arrangement of fixed and sliding brackets. The location and arrangement of the sliding brackets depends on the slope of the roof and information on this can be found in the specialist rules of the trade. Our complete range of brackets comply with these rules and offer you long-lasting security for your roof. If snow retention system brackets are also installed, the fixed brackets must be capable of absorbing the expected thrust forces from the snow.

Andreas Kling: Metalldesign - Arts and crafts

Andread Kling, born in Oberstdorf, has been managing Kling GmbH since 1995, and is the third generation to do so. The company celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1999. He also completed a copper forming course in 1978 when working for his qualification as a master tradesman. The techniques he learned became of the basis of a much-loved leisure activity. With his son Clemens, who has also worked at the company Scherrer Metec AG in Zürich, he makes use of the slack time in the winter, and also his free time, to create flowers, weathercocks, witches, dragons and other objects, which already proudly decorate a number of houses in the vicinity. His favourite material is copper sheet, which is moulded into the desired form by means of cutting, forming, soldering, hard soldering and welding.

Our company was established more than 50 years ago, and since then has been located in Oberstdorf im Allgäu, the southernmost town in Germany. Kling GmbH combines tradition and innovation in the best sense, and, because of the extreme climatic conditions in our area, employs a specialist workforce. The expertise of our workforce is demonstrated day after day, not only in terms of the extremely high quality of our metal roofs, but also in the area of building sealing and all other aspects of roofing work.

General information on snow retention

The State building regulations can require that action is taken in order to prevent snow and ice from falling off roofs.
Snow loading zones are regulated according to DIN 1055-5 “Effects on bearing elements“ Part 5 - Snow and ice loads.
In the case of metal roofs, tube systems arranged in several rows are preferred. These are attached to the longitudinal ribs of the roof sheets with clamping plates.
We recommend inserting ice retainers in the middle of the sheets. These are fixed between the snow retention tubes and the surface of the metal.

General information:

Basically it must be distinguished between the mounting and planning of solar panels on new or old metal roofs. If it is a new roof, the expected snow- and windloads can be aimed. The panels must be attached with enough clips to the building structure to carry those loads. Norms like the German Institute for Standardization 1055 for wind- and snow loads are to be followed. On a old roof the panels and seams must have enogh flexural strength and the structural analysis must be able to carry the additional loads. Edge and corner areas

Corner and edge areas are not suitable for collector monting
Snow retention systems must not be disabled
Local circumstances are to be followed
